Jump into the best 5 days you'll ever have in Tassie!
You’re going to love this - five days enjoying Australia’s smallest but most beautiful state. See Tasmania’s most incredible sights, meet new people and save cash to boot. It’s the most affordable five day Tassie tour on offer!
Daily Itinerary:
Day 1:
It’s Jump time! Kick back and relax as we sweep north out of Hobart through the hop-growing region of the Derwent Valley. Going west we enter one of the world’s last great temperate rainforests at Mount Field National Park. The park is home to beautiful Russell Falls and some of the tallest trees in the world! If you’re after wildlife, look out for the cute Pademelon, (a bit like a mini-wallaby). Like so many things here, it’s unique to Tasmania.
Continuing north we visit the former hydro-electric settlement of Tarraleah, with it’s wonderful lookout perched atop Tasmania’s Central Plateau. Shortly afterwards we reach the famous Lake St Clair, on the eastern edge of Tasmania’s World Heritage Wilderness Area. It’s the deepest lake in Australia, so soak in the scenery and enjoy the peacefulness of lunch by the lake side (you might even see a platypus :-)
From here it’s perhaps the most beautiful drive of the trip as we wind our way through the World Heritage Area. The incredible views from Donaghy’s Hill stretch in all directions. After a quick walk to the top you’ll see the quartzite peak of Frenchmans Cap, and the the iconic Franklin River winds its way through the valley below.
Overnight - Jump Holiday House @ Tullah
Day 2:
An action packed day today in the heart of Tassie’s wild West Coast. First up we hit the walking track to Montezuma Falls - at 104m, it’s Tasmania’s highest waterfall. The track winds its way through lush green myrtle rainforest, following the route of an old mining tramway so no steep parts!
The beautiful fishing town of Strahan is our lunch stop today - take the opportunity to immerse yourself in the history of what was once one of the most remote outposts of the British Empire.
Just north of here are the massive Henty Dunes - climb to the top for a wonderful view across the Southern Ocean, or if you’re game you can even race along the top on a quad bike! Below lies Ocean Beach, Tasmania’s longest. The waves crashing on this beach last touched land thousands of kilometres away across the ocean in South America.
Overnight - Jump Holiday House @ Tullah
Day 3:
This morning the highlights keep coming with the stunning Cradle Mountain our first stop. You’ve got a number of walking options, from the easy jaunt around Dove Lake to the spectacular hike to the top of Marion’s Lookout - don’t forget to watch for the wombats, and Tasmanian devils that thrive in this part of the world!
After Cradle it’s time for lunch in the “Town of Murals” - Sheffield! This town plays host to an annual art competition and most of the buildings have some pretty amazing paintings running along their sides. If you’re lucky you might even run into the alpaca man!
After lunch It’s time to tantalise the taste buds - there are over 50 different honey’s to try at the Chudleigh Honey Farm! Stay gourmet as we cruise along to 41 Degrees South Aquaculture and try their delicious hot smoked salmon.
In the evening we reach Tasmania’s second largest city - Launceston. Why not take a wander and enjoy the wonderful architecture of the city or perhaps indulge in one of the city’s many fine eating and drinking establishments?
Overnight - Launceston
Day 4:
First stop this morning is the majestic Cataract Gorge, a picturesque natural formation located just a few minutes walk from the Launceston CBD. From there we head north-east to admire the amazing memorial carvings at Legerwood and taste the cheesy delights of the Pyengana Dairy Company.
In the afternoon it’s time for the highlight of the day - the stunning Bay of Fires. Named Lonely Planet’s Number 1 destination for 2009, the bay has some of the whitest sand and clearest water you’ll ever see. Take your time to explore the beach, swim in the turquoise waters or simply admire the view over a coffee!
In the evening we arrive at our accommodation in the seaside town of Bicheno. As darkness falls head to the beach to see the fairy penguins come ashore to nest.
Overnight - Bicheno
Day 5:
This morning there’s the option to check out some unique Tasmanian fauna at East Coast Natureworld - soon after we arrive it’s feeding time for the Tasmanian devils, wombats, echidnas and koalas and many more animals that call the park home.
Now it’s time to pack a picnic lunch as we check out another Tassie icon - the gorgeous sparkling waters of Wineglass Bay. I hope you had your Weetbix because this is a walk that will get the heart pumping, with the reward of fantastic views at the top of the lookout. If you’ve still got some gas in the tank trek down to the beach itself - it consistently rates in the top five beaches of the world so you won’t be disappointed!
In the afternoon we head inland to the beautiful, historic coaching town of Ross (whose bakery is particularly well known to our Japanese guests!) Admire the work of the convict stonemasons dating back to the early decades of the colony, including one of the oldest surviving bridges in Australia. Finally it’s time to head back to civilisation as we cruise back down the highway to Hobart.
