Full Day Eco and Historical Adventure Cruise - Hobart to Port Arthur
If you wish to also include a visit to Port Arthur Historic Site in your full day tour then the Port Arthur Full Day Tour is for you!
Our highly trained, informative, entertaining and enthusiastic guides will take you on a full day tour from Hobart which includes our three hour eco-adventure cruise, a scenic bus tour from Hobart to Port Arthur return, morning tea and lunch and a three hour visit to Port Arthur Historic Site.
You will depart Hobart at 7.45am from the Hobart & Tasmania's South Visitor Information Centre for our Port Arthur booking office where you will enjoy a morning-tea break on your arrival. You will then be taken to our three hour eco-adventure cruise departure point to board our boat. On your return you will have lunch and a three hour visit to the Port Arthur Historic Site before your guided trip back to Hobart by 6pm.
3 Hour Eco Adventure Cruise
This world class eco-adventure cruise travels along the spectacular coastline of the Tasman National Park between Port Arthur and Eaglehawk Neck, southern Tasmania.
One of the highlights of the cruise is Tasman Island, a great landmark of the Southern Ocean – its slender white lighthouse is still a beacon for seafarers entering Storm Bay including during the famous annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.
Few places on Earth have such a rich variety of marine wildlife and seabirds. The Continental Shelf runs close to Tasman Island and an upwelling of nutrient from the ocean's depths creates a smorgasbord for all the creatures in the complex food chain of the sea, from plankton and birdlife such as albatross to sharks, dolphins and southern right whales.
So much is happening out there, every day of the year. The abundant sea and coastal wildlife is extremely active, who knows what you will see on your cruise? Close encounters with wildlife are common:
* We guarantee sightings of seals at the extensive seal haul-outs at Tasman Island and Cathedral Rock
* From September to December and again between April and May, you may observe migrating humpback or southern right whales.
* In late summer, we often see great rafts of shearwaters in their tens of thousands.
* At any time of the year, you’re likely to see the feeding frenzy of diving gannets, albatrosses and see eagles wheeling on the wind, cliff-nesting peregrine falcons and playful dolphins surfing in the bow wave of the boat.
Each day we decide on the direction of the cruise depending on the wind and the sea conditions. The tour will either leave from Eaglehawk Neck or at Port Arthur a short walk from our booking centre. Our main departure point is from our Port Arthur booking centre where we will transfer you to where our boat will be leaving from. You need to arrive at our booking office 40 minutes prior to the departure time to allow for these transfers.
