The Mornington Peninsula is known around the world for its Pinot Noir. Notoriously hard to grow, Pinot grapes enjoy the cooler climate of the peninsula which allows them to ripen slower giving the wine a rich character and flavour.
The Peddle for Pinot Tour takes in 3 great winerys and there is plenty of time for tasting and purchasing wines. This tour is nearly all down hill which makes it perfect if you haven’t been on a bike for a while. The Tour starts at the Arthurs Seat lookout with superb views across Port Phillip Bay. After a safety brief we cycle the road side trail to our first stop at Myrtaceae Winery with its classic varietals of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Just a few kilometres down the trail is Eldridge Estate renowned for its red and white wines, climate controlled cellar door and breathtaking views. You’re in the heart of Red Hill now and it won’t be long till you are on the historic Red Hill Rail Trail. We follow the route of the old steam trains that first chugged their way up the steep route in the 1880’s. The trail offers excellent views across Westernport Bay and the surrounding country side.
The trail ends at Merricks General Store, an historic building that dates back to the early 20th century. The store is the cellar door for 3 impressive wineries: Bailleu Vineyard, Elgee Park and Quealy wines all producers of fine Pinot Noir amongst other varietals.
Indulge in a free glass of wine on the house or order a sumptuous meal to end a great days riding.
Complimentary pick up and drop off from Frankston Train station or anywhere on the Peninsula. Experienced guide, all cycling gear, helmet, 600 mill water bottle, tastings costs, complimentary glass of wine at Merricks General Store.
