A day on the Highlander Food Trail Tour takes you inland, over the mountain range, to the Cairns Highlands (Atherton Tablelands). During your day full of food and wine, you will travel through both the wet and dry tropics. With contrasting landscapes and weather conditions, the area grows a large variety of excellent foods, which are sold locally and interstate.

NQ Gold Coffee Plantation:
- Coffee is grow differently in Australia. Hear why.
- Learn about tricks the farmer uses.
- See coffee cherries, the harvester and green beans.
- You will hear why cherry seeds are fermented.
- The roaster creates coffee beans in 15 minutes.
- Learn all the different roasts, how a great cup of coffee is made. It is so easy to get it wrong.

These people are the only Italian – Australian coffee producers, growing and roastingcoffee in tropical north Queensland. Indulgence for your taste buds.

deBrueys Tropical Fruit Winery:
- All the wines are produced from tropical fruits.
- Try mango, lychee, passionfruit or jaboticaba.
- There are five tropical fruit wines.
- And, three port style tropical fruit wines
- And, three stunning tropical creams
- And, their flagship, a coffee liqueur.
- There are no grapes here!

You sample a selection of deBrueys’ wines, at the winery. You may carry your wine purchase on the bus, or send them directly to your home.

Wondaree Macadamia Plantation:
- You can only visit Wondaree with Food Trail Tours.
- This small farm is not open to the public.
- You are taken on a very informative farm tour.
- Under the trees, your farm tour explains how they grow and harvest this Australian, bush nut.
- In the shed, you see processing machinery, and hear how macadamias are extracted from the shell.

Tastings are provided for your enjoyment, and you can buy Macadamias, at the farm.

Wild Mountain Cellars:
- This is your first stop after your scrumptious lunch.
- Wild mountain cellars is our newest fruit winery.
- With tropical fruit wines ports and liqueurs there is bound to be something to suit your tastes.
- Warwick (Stretch) is one of our real, local Australians.
- Once again, tastings are provided for you to enjoy.
- Take some back to your hotel to enjoy with cheese.

Stretch has also produced an amazing, smokey, pinot noir.

Curtain Fig Tree:
- Technically an epiphyte, but it kills, by strangulation.
- Formed after one tree falls, against another, on an angle
- As the supporting tree, grows it strangles itself.
- Aerial roots grow down to create the “curtain effect”.
- Look up in awe at this 500-year-old natural marvel.
- It is one of the most amazing trees, you will ever see.

Gallo Dairyland:
- Frank Gallo’s Dairyland our newest food attraction.
- Swiss staff are producing chocolates, and cheeses.
- You can also see cows being milked, if you wish.
- Enjoy afternoon tea, with scones, jam and cream.
- Next you may taste the cheeses, and if you ask nicely, you maybe lucky enough to taste their chocolate.
- This is the last farm, before we return you to Cairns
- We carry an esky (ice box) to get some home.

Purchase cheese or chocolate to enjoy, on your hotel balcony, with a bottle of wine.

We had a great day! Nice tour guide who gave lots of infos. Food tasting was fun - best was the Macadamia Farm.

We spent a great day with at the Atherton Tablelands. Besides the nice Foodtasting we saw and learned a lot about the region. Even my kids (10 + 13) loved it. Best of the day was the Makadamia Farm!

Participant Guidelines

Advance reservations can be made for travel on the following days; Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday.

Please wear comfortable casual clothes, and walking shoes. We also recommend you bring a shady hat, at any time of year, and a warm jacket between May and September.
