Wanaka is a small township situated on the southern end of Lake Wanaka and is located in the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand approximately 120 kilometres north-west of Queenstown. It's world famous in hiking circles as being the gateway to the magnificent Mount Aspiring National Park and other alpine areas. Its lake provides the sightseer with picturesque panoramic views of the stunning surrounds whilst enjoying swimming, fishing, boating and kayaking in this pristine natural environment.
Wanaka is primarily a resort town and in recent years has seen increasing visitor growth as an alternative to the popular and more commercialised Queenstown. Boasting an ever growing number of restaurants, bars and cafes, the town also provides action for those seeking a little nightlife fun. But it's Wanaka's great outdoors and daytime activities that really draw the crowds. Not only has it got the Mount Aspiring National Park, it is also used as an access point to those travelling to Mount Cook and the Fiordland National Park of the West Coast.
So whether it's Hiking & Trekking, Helicopter Tours, Heli Skiing, Scenic Flights, Skydiving, Golf, Boat Cruises or Wine Tours you are after, Wanaka has the lot!
